Junior Burke has a long and successful track record
writing beautifully crafted songs that have been performed by a range of musical greats, including David Bromberg, Richie Havens, Bonnie Koloc, Freddie Jackson and Mandy Patinkin. While You Were Gone marks the artist's personal debut, capturing Burke's masterful performance of 11 of his evocative pop gems, highlighted by industry legend Jim Tullio's standout production.
Here Burke performs some of those same songs in a live setting accompanied by Tullio and Bromberg, among others. "It All Happened While You Were Gone" and "Cool of the Day" can be found on the CD. The haunting ballad "Just Because You Didn't Answer," also performed by Burke and friends here, has been recorded by Bob Dylan.
The musical monologue "The Street Where You Live," performed at the American Film Institute in LA, shows a different side of Burke--he is by turns loose, funny and playful here as he lampoons teenage love and the culture of celebrity
